Steamer trunks were once the fashion when people traveled by train and ship, powered by steam engines. When they'd journey, the trip would last days before reaching their destination. Imagine being on a steamer ship for a 7 day voyage; you'd need several days of clothing, food, utensils, books, and other personal items. The Steamer Trunk was made for this type of travel.
Now, we fly to the other side of the world in a day and trunks are no longer used for travel, but they make excellent and attractive storage furniture for your treasures at home. As a linen chest, toy chest, or tool chest for craftsman in all of us.
Solid antiqued brass fittings throughout the piece. Thick leather straps for lift and carrying are nailed into the sides. Old world tongue and groove construction all around. The trunks are also cedar lined. Made by hand, with old world tools, just like int the days of the great steam engines.
The trunk is 36" long X 20" deep X 10" tall. Features a sliding "til" drawer and solid brass stay to keep the lid open when in use. I have two in stock and can ship anywhere in the US or Canada. The base price is $3000. Shipping and tax are based on final destination.
The hinges are 90 degree "stop" hinges that prevent the lid from opening too far and damaging anytime behind the trunk.
